"Operation Firefighter" a GFWC - New York State Federation of Women's Clubs Project
This project was chosen to raise money for equipment to benefit a fire company or station with the most need and within the vicinity of the World Trade Center disaster.

Our sympathy is extended to all who have been touched by this tragedy in any way.

"Operation Firefighter" has successfully reached its goal!
An emergency ambulance was delivered to the New York City Fire Department
on Monday, May 24, 2004

A tremendous amount of gratitude goes out to JoEllen Cortapaso and Donna Sherrer, co-chairmen. It should be noted that Linda Kreussling, a Farmindale Junior, personally donated a substantial amount to bring the program to a timely close.

NYFD Commissioner Scopetta presented GFWC International President Judy Lutz with a plaque and commendation and in turn Judy presented the NYFD a check in the amount of $180,000 for the purchase of a new fully equiped emergency ambulance.

The ceremony took place in front of the New York Fire Department Headquarters at 9 Metrotech Center. Thirty-four GFWC members enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the Brooklyn Marriott Hotel prior to walking over to the ceremony.
